Filming Process
Summary: We practised for our documentary by filming a interview about mobile phones, this required us to put our knowledge of documentary conventions to use. We first had to find a willing person to interview, this was harder than expected as not allot of people would like to be on camera. We spoke to about five people explaining what we were doing and asking them if they would help and after being let down a few times we found a person willing to be interviewed. We took them outside, to a non populated location to be interviewed and set up the camera and microphone in the correct position we also told them that they had to face the interviewer at all times and answer the questions in full sentences. Unfortunately the person who we was interviewing would keep on forgetting what we told him at the beginning so we had to repeat questions and remind him of things that he needed to do in the interview. Another thing that was wrong was that cutaway shots were hard to film for mobile phones, because of the questions that we asked the interviewee and the responses that he gave it was hard for us to film cutaway shots that were relevant to the actual documentary. This would have to be made up at a later date by using photographs in replace of films. After we had filmed the interview we had to go out and film cutaway shots to help our documentary flow allot more easily. This was fairly quick and simple as we did not film peoples faces so allot more people were willing to help out. Also we were able to get relevant pictures off the internet, which corresponded to what was bieng said to make the documentary flow better.
